Run

Whenever I go to the gym, I always hashtag my FourSquare check-in #runningfortheTARDIS.  Technically I guess I should say #ellipticallingfortheTARDIS, but that just doesn’t roll off the tongue as well.  It is both a way to connect with my fitness buddy Jenn and very often my sole motivating factor that gets me through my cardio.  Cause let’s face it.  They do a LOT of running on Doctor Who.  And when the Doctor comes for me (SHUT UP HE WILL), I want to be ready.  I can’t be slowing him down when we are running away from Daleks or Cybermen or Dinosaurs!

There also happen to be a lot of songs about running on the playlist.  Songs about running away together.  Songs about running TOWARDS each other.  Best of all, songs that capture that incandescent and reckless feeling that comes along with being head over heels in love with someone.  Bonus: All but one of these songs are pretty happy, so you won’t want to kill yourself at the end of this post.

You’re welcome.

Rose and Tenth Doctor running and laughing

“Baby let’s just get out of this town…”

“Get Out of This Town” – Carrie Underwood

“Let’s get out of this town tonight!
Nothing but dust in the shadows,
Gone by morning light.
Somewhere we won’t ever get caught, ever be found,
Baby, let’s just get out of this town!
Don’t need directions, don’t need a map
If we get lost I’ll be good with that.
Yeah, we’ll find a way to make the time pass…”

For as much as we focus on all the ANGST that comes along with Rose and Ten (because we do love all the angst) we tend to forget about the times when they were just blissfully happy together.  The giggling and flirting in “Tooth and Claw”.  The opening scene of “The Idiot’s Lantern” (“You going my way, doll?”).  Their sexy sleuthing in “Fear Her”.  And that running gif completely personifies this song.  Yeah, they are likely running for their lives at that point.  But that moment when they look at each other and just LAUGH and keep running.  He’s saying, “Let’s get out of here, baby.”  That, my dear readers, is the breathless feeling of being in love personified.

And the line “Yeah, we’ll find a way to make the time pass…” = doing it, doing it, TARDIS doing it.  You know this to be true.

Nothing for Granted” – Brendan James

“Tell your friends you’ll see them later
Tell your family they can wait
Oh, only young once, only dream of
the day that love will steal you away

So run with me down these midnight streets
We will take nothing for granted
Nothing for granted
Come with me, life is short and sweet
We will take nothing for granted
Nothing for granted”

Don’t you wish they could always be this carefree?  I HATE YOU RUSSELL T. DAVIES.

"I will run away with you..."

“I will run away with you…”

“Runaway” – The Corrs

“Say it’s true, there’s nothing like me and you.
I’m not alone, tell me you feel it too.

And I would run away
I would run away, yeah…
Yeah, I would run away
I would run away with you

Cause I am falling in love with you
No never I’m never gonna stop
Falling in love with you.”

Let’s get something straight.  If you don’t ship Rose and the Ninth Doctor as much as you do Rose and Ten, you’re watching the show wrong.  We’ve got a ton of playlist songs that are more Nine than Ten, but they HAVE to be included on a playlist about Rose and The Doctor.  Ten would not BE Ten had it not been for the way that Nine loved Rose.  He freaking kissed the time vortex out of her after all.  If that’s not love, then I don’t know what is.  Tennant may be MY Doctor forever and ever, but I have a great affection for Eccleston.  I feel like he doesn’t get enough credit for how good he is.

Plus, have you SEEN him lately?  He is looking FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE.  And please come back for the 50th, sir.  PLEASE.

Run” – Matt Nathanson featuring Sugarland

“You trace my lines, stirring my soul

Shoot sparks at the heart of the world and I watch it explode
.

You turn, turn, turn, turning me on

Like a slow fire burn,

I know that it’s wrong

Still I run, run, run, run right into you
.
Yeah, I run, run, run, run right into you.

I’m amazing when you’re beside me.
I am so much more.
And I feel your fingers
Pound like thunder
And I am so much more.”

The Doctor had ZERO intention of falling in love with a 19-year-old Shop Girl.  Rose clearly had no intention of falling in love with a 900 year old Time Lord.  And yet…they can’t stop themselves from being drawn to each other.  Sometimes you just can’t help who you fall in love with.  And Rose and the Doctor ARE so much more when they are together.  SO.  MUCH.  MORE.

Yep.

Yep.

(Also, I can’t even discuss the fact that Rose and Ten are losing this poll to freaking Kurt and Blaine from Glee.  Um, the Doctor burned up a sun for Rose.  Blaine cheated on Kurt as soon as he moved to New York City.  How is this even a discussion??)

“Run” – Leona Lewis (covering Snow Patrol)

“You’ve been the only thing that’s right
In all I’ve done
And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we’ll make it anywhere
Away from here

Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I’ll be right beside you, dear
Louder, louder
And we’ll run for our lives…”

Look at their effing faces in that gif.  GAH.  Epic run to each other is epic.  AND THEN THEY KISS AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Wait.  That’s not how it ends??  That’s how it ends in MY head.

Anyone else ready to go running with me?
